Veteran Bollywood, theatre and TV actor Tom Alter has been diagnosed with cancer. The 67-year-old Indian-American actor is suffering from the fourth stage of bone cancer, his son confirmed to an online publication.

Reportedly, Tom Alter has been admitted to Saifee Hospital in Mumbai, where he is currently undergoing treatment.

While speaking to indianexpress.com, Tom Alter's son Jamie confirmed the news. Without divulging more details, he told the website, "It's not a good time to talk. I will call you in the evening."

Tom Alter is born and brought up in Mussoorie, Uttarakhand.

He made his Bollywood debut in 1976 with Dharmendra's 'Charas'. He has also worked in films like 'Shatranj Ke Khiladi', 'Gandhi' and 'Veer Zaara'.

Tom Alter shot to fame with his role in popular sitcom 'Zabaan Sambhalke'.
