One of the most awaited movies Padmavati is soon to hit the theaters and we are finding it difficult to wait. This Sanjay Leela Bhansali directed Indian period drama film revolves around Rani Padmini of Chittor and can be termed a woman centric movie, which is the primary reason for many established actors like Shahrukh Khan to turn down the offer. The movie is slated to release on December 1 this year but before you book your tickets, there are certain lesser known and crazy facts about Alauddin Khilji – being played by the versatile Ranveer Singh in the movie – that you must know.

1. How he became the Sultan

Alauddin sat on the throne of Delhi as Sultan post murdering his uncle and father-in-law Jalal-ud-Din Khilji, the founder of Khilji dynasty. He ruled from 1296 to 1316, a little over two decades.

2. He titled himself

The ambitious ruler loved to be known as ‘The Second Alexander’ and took the title of ‘Sikander-i-Sani’.

3. He was a warmonger and expanded his kingdom manifolds

Despite his flaws, Alauddin was a terrific ruler and expanded his kingdom by conquering Mewar, Gujarat, Ranthambor, Jalore, Mabar, Madurai, Warrangal, and Malwa. He also defeated the Mongals a number of times.

4. His lust for Rani Padmini let to war

Alauddin set his eyes on Rani Padmini and her kingdom, following which he extended his friendship to the King of Chittor, Rana Rawal Ratan Singh just to conquer Chittor. Later, he conquered the Chittor fort and the Rani.

5. He was allegedly a bisexual

Historical evidences prove that he was a bisexual and had a relationship with Malik Kafur, who he met at a slave market.

6. He had a house full of men, women and children to satisfy his sexual desires

His Zanana comprised of over 70,000 men, women and children.

7. Jauhar against Alauddin

Rani Padmavati and the other women didn’t find it comfortable to be his slave and committed Jauhar. If legends are to be believed, their screams haunted the ruler for many years.

8. His death!

Alauddin breathed his last in 1316 and it is believed that he was murdered by Malik Kafur.
